Veterans Memorial Unveiled In Clayton

A crowd of veterans, town leaders and school children watched as a monument “dedicated to the memory of all who proudly served and protected their country” was unveiled Sunday afternoon in front of the Clayton Town Center.

Mayor Jody McLeod and representatives from the Clayton American Legion post addressed the crowd.  WRAL’s David Crabtree was the master of ceremonies for the event.  Photos by John Payne

  1. Veterans are taught a valuable lesson early in their career, and that is attention to detail! The plaque on the front of the memorial with each military branches crest is out of order. The Air Force and Navy should be swapped. And one question for our Mayor, does this get you off the hook for the Veterans Memorial you promised back in 2015? Just wondering. All the Clayton Veterans are curious.
