BENSON – Benson Police are investigating a shooting in a convenience store parking lot minutes after a road rage incident on Interstate 40 in Johnston County.
Around 10:15pm Friday, July 7, police were dispatched to the Short Stop. Officers found a 27 year-old man suffering from a non life-threatening gunshot wound to the leg.
Police believe the shooting originated from some type of road rage incident on I-40, and the suspect vehicle followed the victim’s vehicle from I-40 onto I-95, and then into the Benson city limits.
Both vehicles pulled into the Short Stop and several shots were fired into a vehicle the victim was riding in. The suspect vehicle, which appears to be a gray Dodge Ram truck, fled from the scene. The Ram truck was last seen traveling south on NC Highway 242.
