Virtual Summer Reading Program

The Public Library of Johnston County and Smithfield’s Virtual Summer Program will start on June 22nd continue through August 3rd. The community is invited to join the library this summer to celebrate the power of reading. The Summer Reading Program theme is “Imagine Your Story!” This theme informs us that we have a story to tell. Due to the current pandemic, the library will not hold any in-house programs this summer.

The benefits of the summer reading programs are many. Most importantly, students typically receive higher reading scores on standardized tests. These programs bridge the summer gap and empower the students to be lifelong learners. Students will have experiences that will further their sense of discovery.

Students may download reading logs to participate in the Virtual Summer Reading Program on the library’s website at www.pljcs.org or in the library. The library is encouraging everyone to read and let their imaginations go wild. Once students have finished reading their books, they must return their reading logs to the Children’s or Teen Librarian to obtain a prize.

According to Arthur, “Having fun isn’t hard when you have a library card!” We hope everyone will participate in our Virtual Summer Reading Program.
