The Wake County Sheriff’s Office has charged a Zebulon man for allegedly using his vehicle to run over a deputy.
Shortly before midnight last night, a deputy was attempting to serve a warrant on the suspect at a residence located on Highway 97 in Zebulon. As the deputy approached the suspect, identified as 30-year-old Matthew Cary, jumped into his vehicle and attempted to run into the deputy. The suspect then rammed his vehicle into the deputy’s patrol car, causing front end damage, before fleeing the scene. The deputy was not injured during the incident.
Matthew Cary was later located in Harnett County and subsequently taken into custody by the Harnett County Sheriff’s Office.
Cary is charged with assault with a deadly weapon on a law enforcement officer, communicating threats and damage to property. He is being held on a $75,000 bond.
