Walker Announces Bid For Johnston County Superior Court

Steven Walker, a long-time resident of Johnston County, announced Thursday that he will be running for the newly-created open Superior Court judgeship. Walker will be running as a Republican candidate in the March 2022 primary.

Steven currently practices law at Walker Kiger, PLLC, a law firm in the 40-42 area of Johnston County. Prior to his work at Walker Kiger, he was General Counsel to Lieutenant Governor Dan Forest for eight years, also serving the last two years as Chief of Staff. Additionally, Steven has been the Senior Law Clerk to Conservative Justice Edward Thomas Brady of the Supreme Court of North Carolina and practiced law with an office in Selma.

Steven Walker has practiced law in every level of state court in North Carolina, including arguing at the North Carolina Supreme Court. He has also practiced in the Supreme Court of the United States, filing a brief on behalf of Lieutenant Governor Forest in United States v. Texas, a case dealing with President Obama’s immigration policies. Steven also served as the attorney in the Superior Court case of Forest v. Cooper, when Lieutenant Governor Forest sued Governor Cooper over COVID-19 lockdowns.

Steven has practiced in the Superior Courts of Johnston and surrounding counties and says he understands the important, life-changing decisions a Superior Court judge makes.

“My judicial philosophy is simple – the law means what it says. I am a strict constructionist and believe that the law and the Constitution should be interpreted according to its original meaning. I will be a fair judge and will always strive for justice to be done.”

Steven attended law school at Campbell University, where he graduated with highest honors and was editor-in-chief of the Campbell Law Review.

Steven and his wife Martha live in Selma with their five children, who are home-schooled. Steven is also the Pastor of Parrish Memorial Baptist Church in Selma, where he has served for the last 14 years.
