Goldsboro – The N.C. Department of Transportation today (Wednesday) closed a stretch of Mark Edwards Road in Wayne County to make emergency bridge repairs.
NC DOT maintenance crews will repair parts of the substructure that have deteriorated on the bridge over West Bear Creek near Parkstown Road.
The bridge, which carries truck traffic, was built in 1950 and partially reconstructed in 1972. Although the substructure is made of wood, the deck that vehicles cross is concrete.
The bridge will reopen sometime between June 16th and June 18th.
In the meantime, drivers should use New Hope Road, U.S. 13 and the U.S. 70 Bypass as a detour.
