  1. They had to do what they had to do. I feel bad for the officer that had to do it and I pray he will be ok with the actions he has to take. I am sure this is the last thing the officer wanted to do.

  2. The only thing I hope for in these situations is the person being given commands is not deaf or hard of hearing. Never an excuse for pointing a gun at any person regardless if it’s a government official or not – but still it always crosses my mind for some reason, I guess because my mom can’t hear anymore.

    • Leighlah, I understand what you are saying and in some cases that does not involve a gun you have a valid point but in this case weather he could hear or not, he should never have raised his gun towards the officer or anyone. The officer wants to go home to his family after his or her shift and thank God this officer does get to go home.

  3. Wow Leighlah, your comment is so far fetched. It baffles me. Devil’s advocates like yourself are one of the many reasons our once great society is now backwards.

    • I had just watched a documentary on autistic adults trying to live in the “real” world. One young man who was known in his small town had a quirk that *most* all knew about – he would go to the apartment complex mailbox to get the family’s mail and on the way there and back he would check cars to make sure they were locked. All the neighbors knew this 20 something year old young man did this. He was also deaf/non verbal. One day an out of town person was visiting and thought he was breaking in their car and called 911. The police came and almost killed the young man. He was tasered, pepper sprayed, hand cuffed, thrown on the ground for resisting arrest, because he did not have the mental capacity to understand what was happening. It was all on police video. Finally his mother realized he was not home in his usual time and saw police activity and went to the scene. This didn’t involve a gun so not the same scenario – but still it was wild go see something so harmless get so out of hand so quickly. Pointing a gun is NEVER harmless though so I am not saying that. But our society loves guns- so what if this young man in the above story had a gun like the second amendment rights give him. What do you think the outcome would have been? There is no law on the books limiting a deaf, non verbal autistic person from owning a gun, just like there isn’t one from stopping my mother who has dementia. There should be. For the police officer who has to live with killing that person, if that where to ever happen, and for that person and their loved ones. Those laws make a great society – where people realize that not everyone is the same as each other – and there are people who have differences that can’t be detected sometimes right of the bat.
I don’t know the story of the man who got shot in the joco reports. He may have just been on a suicide mission. He may have wanted to kill a cop. All I am saying is sometimes – just sometimes – once in a blue moon – there can be another side that no one saw coming. Like with the young autistic man who thankfully didn’t die, but was severely injured, but again , there was no gun involved in his story, so I am not saying it is an apples to apples story. I do remember a story from Charlotte (I think) a while back where the police told someone in a car some commands and they ended up killing them. They found out the person was hard of hearing afterwards. It can happen, far fetched or not. Probably more than we know.

  4. One less violent criminal is never a bad thing. Don’t point a gun at law enforcement and you won’t get deaded.
