Wayne County Man Gets Green Flag In Race For $1 Million Powerball Prize

GOLDSBORO – Beverly Lipford of Goldsboro continues to survive and advance in the NASCAR Powerball Playoff™ promotion as he just became one of four finalists nationwide to have a chance at winning the $1 million grand prize.

Lipford won a drawing to move from the final eight into the final four. His odds of winning $1 million are one in four.

The other finalists come from South Carolina, Louisiana, and Delaware. Powerball announced the finalists Sunday during the Xfinity 500 at Martinsville Speedway in Martinsville, Va.

“I’m excited,” Lipford said. “I’m about ready to pass out.”

Lipford and his wife will now get a VIP trip for two to NASCAR Championship Weekend™ in Phoenix, Nov. 8-10. The $1 million drawing will be broadcast live during NBC’s pre-race coverage of the NASCAR Cup Series Championship Race™ on Sunday, Nov. 10.

In addition to a possible $1 million prize, the VIP trip includes roundtrip airfare for two to Phoenix, Ariz., three nights hotel accommodations, Ally Curve Hospitality Club passes for both the NASCAR Xfinity Series Championship Race on Saturday and the NASCAR Cup Series Championship Race on Sunday, and two passes for VIP experiences at Phoenix Raceway during the NASCAR Championship Weekend.

Lipford’s luck started when he entered and won the NASCAR Powerball Playoff™ second-chance drawing in May. He was then randomly selected from a national pool of Powerball players for a field of 16, then eight before making the final four.

Lipford said he has started thinking about what he would do if he wins the $1 million prize.

“We have five kids,” he said. “We would give to our church and take care of the kids.”
