GOLDSBORO – Rodrick Ford of Goldsboro tried his luck on a $30 scratch-off and won a $1 million top prize.
Ford bought his lucky Millionaire Maker ticket from S & N Quick Mart on North William Street in Goldsboro.
When Ford arrived Friday at lottery headquarters to collect his winnings, he had a decision to make. He could choose to receive his prize as an annuity of $50,000 over 20 years or a lump sum of $600,000. He chose the lump sum of $600,000 and, after required state and federal tax withholdings, took home $429,009.
How do they get off only giving $600,000 cash prize and still advertise at 1,000,000.?
The Lottery is a ripoff.
Receiving 600k dollars after spending 30 dollars is a rip off?
I agree, and when he does his taxes he will still have to pay more.
Because he chose not to take the payment plan which would have equaled $1mil.
I just read this and said the same thing. How do you go from 1M to 600k down to only walking away with less than half million dollars. That’s crazy. He may have been better off doing the $50k over 20 years. Less taxes and more money.
