West Johnston High Crowns Mr. West J 2018

West Johnston High senior Hudson Roberts was crowned Mr. West Johnston at the school’s fifth annual Mr. West Johnston Pageant.

The 14 candidates each represented different clubs, organizations, or athletic teams in the school. The candidates in this year’s pageant were:

  • “Mr. Heisman” – Solomon Mitchell, who represented the football team
  • “Mr. Love” – Whittee Boswell, who represented the tennis team
  • “Mr. Pool Boy” – Blake Markuson, who represented the swim team
  • “Mr. Birdie” – Ray Kemp, who represented the golf team
  • “Mr. Grand Slam” – Wyatt Ford, who represented the baseball team
  • “Mr. Goalie” – Remy Merkousko, who represented the soccer team
  • “Mr. G.I. Joe”- Andrew Ryan, who represented ROTC
  • “Mr. Tuba” – Hudson Roberts, who represented the band
  • “Mr. Lit” –  Jake Flynn, who represented the spirit club
  • “Mr. President” – Nick Moston, who represented the Student Government Association
  • “Mr. Sweet Potato” – Brody Hall, who represented the Food Pantry
  • “Mr. Camo” – Justin Wood, who represented the FFA
  • “Mr. Big Man on Campus” – Zavier Blevins, who was selected to participate by popular vote by the student body

“My original goal was to just have a great time with everybody and give the audience a great show,” Roberts said. “Winning was just a bonus.”

The contestants competed in several areas including evening wear, athletic wear, best legs, best smile, most photogenic, and a group talent portion.

Contestants who placed in the top five were Whittee Boswell, Zavier Blevins, Hudson Roberts, Justin Wood and Wyatt Ford.

Roberts said he sees the victory not as his own, but as one shared between all participants in the pageant.

“It didn’t really matter who won in the end,” Roberts said. “We were all winners.”
