West Smithfield Home Damaged By Fire

SMITHFIELD – The Johnston County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of a weekend fire that heavily damaged a home in West Smithfield.

Shortly after 6:00pm Saturday, the Smithfield, Selma and Wilson’s Mills Fire Departments were dispatched to a fire at 209 Stancil Street. Crews arrived to find flames coming out of the roof.

The fire was primarily contained in the attic area, however the living area sustained water damage.

The occupant, who had been living at the address since 1960, escaped without injury.

County Fire Marshal Adam Stanley estimated the damage at approximately $40,000.
