WILSON – Janet Johnson of Wilson took a chance on a $25 scratch-off ticket and won a $1 million top prize.
Johnson bought her lucky Extreme Cash ticket from the 7-Eleven on Airport Boulevard West in Wilson.
When Johnson arrived at lottery headquarters Thursday, she had a decision to make. She could choose to receive the prize as an annuity of $50,000 over 20 years or a lump sum of $600,000. She chose the lump sum of $600,000 and, after required state and federal tax withholdings, took home $429,007.
Since Johnson won the last top prize in the Extreme Cash game, the lottery will begin the process of ending the game.
where did the first $400,000 go? She took $600,000 and then only received $429,007 of that. So out of the million, where did the almost $600,000 go?
