A 50 year-old woman said she fought off a robbery suspect in a convenience store parking lot Monday night. The Buies Creek woman said she was riding in her boyfriends tractor trailer when they stopped at the Speedway, on Highway 42 West at the Interstate 40 intersection, in the Cleveland community around 8:15pm to refuel his truck.
The victim said she was standing outside the truck while her boyfriend went inside to pay for the fuel. The woman said a man quickly approached and grabbed her purse. She told deputies she struggled with the assailant, even striking him in the head with the purse, before he fled on foot.
The woman locked herself in the cab of the truck until her boyfriend exited the store.
Deputies canvassed the area but could not locate the suspect, described as a black male in his 20’s, 5 foot 2, with medium length dread lock hair, and wearing a black shirt and baggy blue jeans. The victim was not injured.
