A young woman was found dead in a motel room. Authorities are investigating her death.
Smithfield Police said they responded to the Holiday Inn Express on South Equity Drive just after 6:00am Monday after a 39 year-old woman was found deceased. Police said Brandy Leigh Houk of Smithfield apparently died during her sleep. Her boyfriend discovered her body and called 911.
Police Captain R.K. Powell said detectives are working with the medical examiner to try and determine the cause of death. Initial reports do not indicate any signs of foul play. Police said the victim did not have any known medical issues.
