After being missing for more than two days, a Darlington, SC woman was found in a wooded area in rural Wayne County Monday afternoon.
Search and rescue crews had been looking for 33 year-old Angel Denise Phillips after she was reported missing just hours after a car accident early Saturday morning.
Phillips 15 year-old son, who was a passenger in the vehicle, told authorities they were involved in a wreck on Highway 55 near Mount Olive and their car became disabled. Troopers said they towed the vehicle around 8:00am Saturday. The son said they began walking and found shelter to stay.
Phillips sent her son to find water around 11:00am Saturday. When he returned his mother was missing.
Major Tom Effler said Phillips was located in a wooded area off Highway 55. She had some exposure to the elements but no signs of any obvious injury. As a precaution she was taken to the hospital to be checked out.
A bulldog with Phillips was also reported missing. The dog has still not been found.
The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, Smith Chapel Fire Department, the Arr-Mac Search and Rescue Team and the North Carolina Forestry Service assisted with the search.
