A 32 year-old woman said she was robbed while leaving a Smithfield business.
Police Captain R. Sheppard said the victim was leaving a hair salon on South Third Street and walking to her car when the suspect approached and hit her in the head with his fist. After being knocked to the ground the suspect took the woman’s watch and $100 in cash. The suspect was armed with a box cutter style knife. After taking the items he fled on foot.
The victim was able to get into her vehicle and flee from the scene. She did not require medical treatment. Police said this happened around 10:00pm Thursday.
Smithfield Police described the suspect as a black male, 5 foot 10 to 6 foot 1 with a slender build. He was wearing a dark color hooded sweatshirt with the hood pulled over his head.
