Woman Run Over By Van In Driveway

SMITHFIELD – A woman was injured after being run over by a van. The incident was reported around 2:45pm Friday on S. Lakeside Drive in West Smithfield.

Police said it happened in the driveway of the woman’s home. The victim, reported to be in her 70’s, was rushed to the hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

The van appeared to have a wheelchair platform on the back of the vehicle.

Smithfield Police Chief Pete Hedrick said the accident involved a couple who lived at the address. Indications are the incident was a tragic accident.
