FOUR OAKS – The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting this afternoon (Thursday) on Interstate 95 near Four Oaks. It happened around 1:35pm. The driver pulled over at the Keen Road Exit at the 87 mile marker and called 911 for help.
Initial reports indicate a man and woman were riding in the front seat of a crew cab truck and a small child was in the back seat. While going down the interstate the small child located a handgun in the back of the vehicle. The child discharged the weapon striking the female front seat passenger in the face.
The woman was rushed by Four Oaks EMS to WakeMed for treatment of a serious but non-life threatening gunshot wound.
Authorities said the incident appears to be accidental. The age of the child was not immediately available.
The Four Oaks Police Department and Four Oaks Fire Department responded to the scene.
Why in the world was a gun in the back area with a child… If u have a permit to have a gun it needs to be on you. This doesn’t sound right to me …
