Woman Went On Shopping Spree With Counterfeit Money, Police Say

SMITHFIELD – A North Carolina woman is facing a dozen criminal charges after police said she went on a shopping spree with counterfeit money.

Smithfield Police said ten businesses were victimized by the suspect, including PacSun, Hanes, Bath & Body Works, PetSmart, Cato, Sweet Frogs, Belks, Bealls, Hibbett Sports, and Dollar Tree.

Ayana Yasmeen Morisseau, 27, of Charlotte, NC allegedly used counterfeit $100 bills to purchase gift cards or other items of value from the businesses.

The alleged crimes occurred on May 7.

Morrisseau was arrested May 8 and charged with 9 counts of obtaining property by false pretense, one count of attempting to obtain property by false pretense, one count of possession of 5 or more counterfeit instruments, and resisting arrest. She was held on a $230,000 bond.

Seven gift cards, nine counterfeit bills, and $389 in real US currency was seized as evidence by police.

  1. I wonder if she is going to try to post bail with her counterfeit money. It is a shame that she could not try to get a real job, earn real money and have pride. TRASH!
