WILSON’S MILLS – Johnston County firefighters were able to stop a fast moving woods fire Wednesday afternoon after they spotted the fire deep in the woods on Bear Farm Road.

The Wilson’s Mills Fire Department was returning from another fire when they spotted smoke in the woods off of a closed section of Bear Farm Road and found several acres on fire, with strong gusty winds pushing the flames deeper into the woods.

The NC Forest Service dispatched a fire plow to surround and successfully control the fast moving flames.

Forest Service Rangers estimated that about 5 acres were charred by the blaze.

The fire was under control by about 4:30pm.

Selma and North Side Fire Departments also assisted with containing the large blaze.
Great job with the quick containment. We have seen what these fires can do and how quicky they can get out of control. Unusually dry and strong winds for this time of year.
We are very lucky to have the quality of FD, Forest service, EMS, Emergency Management and LE we have. The Commissioners too, for funding these essential public safety departments! We have seen in other areas what can happen when you dont prioritize Public Safety.
Cool rainbow in that picture!! God was with them for sure.
Great job to my brothers in blue.
