I-40 In Johnston County Reopens Following Afternoon Crash

Update 4:50PM – Interstate 40 has fully reopened.

Update 3:57PM – All lanes of Interstate 40 are expected to be reopened by 5:00pm today.

JOHNSTON COUNTY – A wreck has temporarily shut down a section of Interstate 40 in Johnston County.  Around 2:15pm, a box truck and tractor trailer collided in the eastbound lanes of I-40 at Exit 312. 

One person was trapped in the wreckage before being freed by crews with the Cleveland Fire Department. The accident victim was transported by ambulance to WakeMed with unknown injuries. 

Eastbound lanes of I-40 have been closed near Highway 42 until the wreck can be cleared.  Drivers should avoid the area for the next several hours.

The State Highway Patrol is on the scene investigating the accident. Traffic delays are reported on I-40 in the area.
