An early morning fire caused an estimated $30,000 in damage.
Around 5:15am Wednesday, a Johnston County deputy was on patrol outside of Benson and spotted flames coming from a barn in the 800 block of Sanders Road. Fire crews arrived on the scene but the building was a total loss.
Damage to the barn was estimated at $10,000. A combine valued at $20,000 was also destroyed.
The Johnston County Fire Marshal’s Office and Johnston County Sheriff’s Office are jointly investigating how the fire started. On Thursday, Sheriff’s Captain Jeff Caldwell said the cause has still not been determined but it still remains under active investigation.
No injuries were reported.
