Heavy rains and flooding are being blamed for two separate sewage spills in Johnston County.
The largest spill – approximately 1,250,000 gallons – occurred Tuesdayand Wednesday (today) in the 1400 block of West Noble Street in Selma. The spill was discharged into an unnamed tributary of the Neuse River, according to the Johnston County Public Utilities Department.
A second spill, this one about 12,000 gallons, was discovered Tuesdayin the 600 block of Devil’s Racetrack Road near Four Oaks. Officials also said that spill was caused by also excessive rainfall amounts.
The NC Division of Water Resources was notified of the incidents on Wednesday and is reviewing the matter.
