Speed was an apparent factor in a fatal motorcycle accident Thursday night in Johnston County.
The Highway Patrol said the crash occurred at 10:40pm on McLemore Road near McDaniels Lane, just down from the Cleveland Fire Department.
Dylan Lee Drayton, 23, of Monument Hill Road, Charlotte was traveling southbound on his 2003 Suzuki motorcycle when he ran off the roadway to the right, struck a ditch and overturned.
Drayton died at Wake Medical Center as a result of his injuries.
A passenger, Deirdre Anderson Wolfe, 44, of Charlotte Court, Clayton was transported to Wake Medical Center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
Trooper P.K. Watkins estimated Drayton was traveling at 60mph in a 45mph zone at the time of the crash.
50-210 EMS, Johnston County EMS, and the Cleveland Fire Department responded to the scene.
