The NC Highway Patrol is investigating a two vehicle accident that killed one person and injured three others. The collision happened at 10:22pm Saturday at the intersection of Hinnant-Edgerton Road at Bizzell Grove Church Road near Micro.
Initial reports indicate Katherine Hinnant Ives, 48, of Selma was operating a minivan that failed to stop for a stop sign at the rural intersection and was struck by a Jeep SUV in the driver’s side door. Ives was pinned in the wreckage and was extricated by crews from the Micro Fire Department. She later died from her injuries. Her daughter, a passenger in the minivan, was critically injured and rushed to WakeMed.
The driver of the SUV, Endris Martinez and his brother, a juvenile, were both injured and transported to WakeMed for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
The NC Highway Patrol, Johnston County Sheriff’s Office, Micro Fire Department, Johnston County EMS, and Medical Examiner’s Office responded to the scene. Trooper D. K. Douglas is still investigating the collision.
