KENLY – A pedestrian was struck and killed on Interstate 95 near Kenly. The accident happened around 9:30pm Friday.

A Fayetteville couple and their special needs daughter had been traveling southbound when they stopped momentarily on the shoulder, near the 110 mile marker, in Wilson County.

After coming to a stop, the 22 year-old woman ran from the car, crossed the southbound lanes, and disappeared into the dark median.

The family immediately began searching for their missing daughter. After being unsuccessful at finding her, the family contacted the State Highway Patrol for assistance.

Before law enforcement could arrive at the scene, the young woman, who was standing in the left northbound lane of the interstate, was fatally struck by a Jeep near the 107.5 mile marker in Johnston County.

The driver of the Jeep, Brandon Justin Klumpp, age 45, of Callahan, Florida stopped and remained at the scene. Klumpp was later charged with driving while impaired and having an open container. He was not charged with the death of the pedestrian.

A commercial motor vehicle with a dash camera traveling behind the Jeep stopped and provide video of the collision to investigating officers.

The victim’s mother was not involved in the accident but was transported to the hospital for evaluation.

Traffic was detoured off I-95 onto US 301 for approximately two hours until the scene could be cleared. The Kenly Fire Department and Kenly Police assisted with the traffic detour.

The State Highway Patrol is continuing their investigation.

  1. How did that 22 yr. old walk 2.5 miles before being struck on the Interstate? What time length occurred for this walk?

  2. Really !! A Child is dead you old clown! Give it a break! This doesn’t speak well for someone who claims to be a person of the LORD!!!! INTERCESSOR MY A$$!

    • The person who died was not a child, but a young adult, and they ether ran or walked 2 1/2 miles before being struck. Let that sink in your head. Rude comments shows who you really are. Grow up act like you are a decent person, instead making foolish statements.

      • She sure was SOMEONES’ CHILD!! AS any person , no matter their age, is a “CHILD” of their PARENT. And believe ME I’M PLENTY GROWN UP!! As a matter of FACT THAT CHILD COULD HAVE BEEN MY CHILD!! I’ll tell you what I will let “SINK INTO MY HEAD”…THOSE POOR PARENTS HAVE TO VENTURE OVER THE REST OF THEIR EARTHLY DAYS GRIEVING ABOUT THIS LOSS IN THEIR LIVES! Why do you even feel the need to question the situational factors?
        Holier than thou attitude-
THAT’S WHY!! Not a single statement that I made was silly or FOOLISH!

        • Why are you so angry, shouting! There is no need in all that anger, maybe a little anger management course would straighten that out. And Why are you constantly attacking my Christianity? Is it because you are under conviction of the LORD about your own soul? Consider your ways.

          • Glad you ain’t my pastor. If she wants to be loud….that’s her choice. No need to keep running your mouth. Open your Bible and read it. Maybe if you were witnessing instead of judging your church would be full next Sunday. Go day sir…..where are my prayers warriors at? We need to prayer for this pastor
Can I get a Amen with your hands in the air!
Prayers for this family as they.continue on. May God give them comfort.

          • Jenna, why are you all judging me, You do not even know me. Besides my Ministries has over 200 ministers and True Intercessors in 150 nations of Earth. Johnston County needs a real Church, not baby-sitting churches, for a bunch of cry Babies. When sin is preached, they run out the door, crying: “He so mean” If Jesus would walk into the churches in Johnston County, The people would call the police and have him kicked out for trespassing. The churches in this county are clannish, and family run, not God run. They even kick the Holy Spirit out the door, cause they do not believe in his miracles, marvels, wonders. Consider who you want to serve Self, Satan, or Lord Jesus Christ.

  3. It’s a shame that a young woman with special needs lost her life but she had absolutely no business WALKING on the Interstate. That being said, the driver of the Jeep was obviously impaired as he was charged with DUI as well as an open alcohol container violation. Had he not been drunk, would the young lady still be alive, we will never know. What we DO know is that another life was lost at the hands of a drunk driver and that driver is not facing charges of vehicular murder while impaired… why not?!?! That is my question! If he hadn’t been drunk, would he have been able to avoid the pedestrian collision is NOT the question because the driver KILLED a human being while driving under the influence of alcohol. NOTHING makes me more angry and I feel the greatest sorrow for the family’s loss of their daughter and NOTHING will bring her back but the drunk driver needs to be held accountable for the human life he took because of the STUPID decision he made to drink alcohol and drive a motor vehicle. That decision alone and the fact that it resulted in the loss of human life deserves the most serious of consequences for his actions up to and including the most severe charges the low will allow in North Carolina. There is simply no excuse for his choice to drink alcohol and CONTINUE drinking alcohol while driving a motor vehicle… the next life he could otherwise take might be YOURS, or possibly your child’s life!!!
