UPDATE 9:05PM – The Highway Patrol has identified the pickup truck driver killed in the accident as Atlas Glen Willoughby, 59, of Kenly. The driver of the minivan, Ashley Dawn Creech, 29, of Selma, and her 18 month-old child sustained non-life threatening injuries, according to Trooper D.J. Hare.
SELMA – One person was killed and two others injured following a collision between a Ford pickup and a Dodge minivan. The collision was reported around 2:30pm Wednesday at the intersection of Highway 39 and Hatcher Road, north of Selma.
Initial reports indicate the driver of a Ford Ranger pickup was traveling on Hatcher Road and failed to stop for a stop sign. The truck was t-boned by a minivan traveling northbound on Highway 39. After the impact both vehicles traveled off the roadway.
The driver of the pickup died at the scene. A mother and her 18 month-old child in the minivan were transported by Johnston County EMS to Wake Med for treatment of what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries.
The intersection was closed for about 90 minutes while the crash was investigated.
The NC Highway Patrol said impairment did not appear to be a factor. Additional details are expected to be released once the accident investigation has been completed.
