Sampson County deputies have arrested one of two suspects they said robbed a business Wednesday night. It happened at the Delway Trading Company located at 104 Delway Highway in Harrells.
Officers said the suspect entered the store and purchased some merchandise. While paying for the merchandise, the man reached into the cash register drawer and grabbed money from inside the drawer. He then got into the passenger seat of a red Volvo, which and fled on Highway 421 South.
A witness followed the suspect long enough to get the license plate number. Officers canvassed the area Wednesday night but were unable to locate the vehicle.
On Thursday, a Clinton police officer found the car in the Wal-Mart parking lot and detained one person in the car. That person, Clifton Darntralll Killett, 38, Royal Lane, Clinton was charged with common law robbery and placed in the Sampson County Jail under a $20,000 bond. Authorities said Killett was the driver of the getaway car used during the robbery.
Warrants have been obtained for the suspect who entered Delway Trading and committed the robbery, identified as Ray Demond Rogers, 38 of Rye Lane, Clinton. Rogers has outstanding warrants on file for common law robbery. Anyone with information on Ray Demond Rogers whereabouts is encouraged to contact the Sampson County Sheriff’s Office at 910-592-4141.
