SMITHFIELD – A $12,656,215 contract has been awarded by Johnston County Commissioners for work at the Johnston County Landfill.
Thalie Construction Company was the lowest of three bidders on the extensive project, which includes permanently closing two cells at the landfill site that previously reached capacity.
The landfill, located on County Home Road, has a minimum estimate of 45 years before reaching capacity. This includes factoring in continued growth in the county for the entire time period. It does not include engineering work that could expand the landfill capacity even more.
