12 Overnight Car Break-Ins Reported

Starting early this morning (Wednesday), Clayton Police starting receiving the first of 12 reports of thieves breaking into unlocked cars. The reports of break-ins came from three different areas around town.  Five car break-ins were reported at The Arbors at East Village apartment complex off East Front Street. Another 5 incident happened at the Amelia Station apartments located off Amelia Church Road near Highway 42. Two reports came in from the Summerlyn neighborhood off Glen Laurel Road.

The victims reported missing valuables including purses, wallets, electronics and more.

All 12 cars were left unlocked near the victim’s homes or in the driveway. The break-ins occurred between midnight and 7 a.m. this morning.

Clayton Police are asking residents not to make it easy for a thief to steal. Always lock your car, even in your driveway. Do not leave valuables in your car, and hide them out of sight if you have no other option.
