SMITHFIELD – The Town Of Smithfield reported a sewer spill Thursday, March 28 from a sanitary force main at 702 Blount Street.
Approximately 13,000 gallons was displaced onto the ground and some into a storm drain. Town crews quickly mobilized to maintain and clean up the spill. The water-sewer department cleaned up the spill with machines and applied pelletized lime and wheat straw to the spill site.
The NC Division of Water Quality was notified of the incident.
