The Town of Clayton has reported a 1,400 gallon sewage spill. The spill was discovered on Friday, March 19th from a manhole behind 11351 US Hwy 70 Business West and near Amelia Church Road.
Public works officials said the spill was caused by rags, rocks and debris in the sewer line. The untreated wastewater entered a storm drain leading to the Little Creek.
The NC Division of Water Resources was notified of the incident and is reviewing the matter. Citizens with questions about the spill may contact the Town of Clayton Distribution & Collection System Manager Byron Poelman at 919-553-1530.
