At the request of the Downtown Smithfield Development Corporation (DSDC), the Town of Smithfield will be installing 15 minute parking signs in Downtown Smithfield.
The town council this month approved spending about $200 to pay for two signs and then allow town staff to install them in the 100 block of South Third Street.
Sarah Edwards the Executive Director of the DSDC said she made the request at the request of business owners in the area.
“Parking in the 100 block of South Third Street tends to turn over less frequently than parking in other areas of Downtown,” Edwards said. “The creation of two 15 minute parking spaces in that block will improve access to all of the businesses within that block for customers that need to make a quick visit to those businesses.”
The signs have been ordered and will be installed as soon as they are received.
