16-Year-Old Charged After Chase In Stolen Vehicle

NEWTON GROVE, N.C. – A 16-year-old was charged after Sampson County sheriff’s deputies said a stolen vehicle sped through a driver’s license checkpoint and led officers on a chase early Tuesday morning.

The incident began around 12:20 a.m. on Fayetteville Highway, where deputies were conducting a driver’s license checkpoint.

According to the Sampson County Sheriff’s Office, deputies saw a silver Kia travel through the checkpoint without stopping and began pursuing the vehicle.

The driver continued on Fayetteville Highway toward Newton Grove.

As the Kia approached the traffic circle, authorities said it continued straight through the traffic circle before coming to rest in the median.

Deputies took the driver into custody without further incident.

Investigators later determined the Kia had been reported stolen Sept. 6 in Sampson County.

The 16-year-old was charged by juvenile petitions with felony fleeing to elude arrest, possession of a stolen motor vehicle, injury to real property, speeding, fictitious registration, resisting, delaying or obstructing a public officer, no operator’s license, and failure to stop for a red light.
