Approximately 17,000 gallons of sewage was discharged November 10th-11th in the vicinity of 191 Technology Drive, off Glenn Road near the I-40/NC42 interchange.
Johnston County Public Utilities said they were notified of the spill at 8:40am today (Wednesday). The spill was caused by a temporary pump failure. The temporary pump operation was required for construction associated with the I-40 widening project. The pump failure occurred from approximately 7:30 pm Tuesday until 7:30 am Wednesday.
The untreated wastewater discharged into an unnamed tributary to Swift Creek. The discharge was recovered and pumped into the County’s wastewater collection system for treatment and to prevent flow from entering Swift Creek.
The NC Division of Water Resources was notified of the incident and is reviewing the matter.
