18 Year-Old Driver Faces Multiple Charges Following Benson PD Chase

BENSON – A Benson teenager is facing a long list of charges after he reportedly led Benson police officers on a brief vehicle pursuit.

James Lucas Winfree, 18, of Adams Road, was arrested November 15th around 7:15pm following the incident.

Police said they attempted to pull over Winfree for failing to stop at a stop sign. He fled from the officers in a 2011 Hyundai. When police lost sight of the Hyundai they canceled the pursuit.

A short time later, officers discovered the Hyundai in a ditch on Highway 242 North at Railroad Road.

Winfree was identified as the driver and arrested. Police charged the teenager with felony fleeing to elude arrest, no operators license, registration violation, simple possession of marijuana, and two counts of failure to stop for a stop sign.

The Highway Patrol, which investigated the traffic accident, cited Winfree for failure to maintain lane control, no operators license, registration violation, and no insurance.

Winfree and a 16 year-old passenger in the car were not injured.
