BENSON – A 19 year-old man died Tuesday night after being electrocuted at a construction site. The victim has been identified as Christian Salazar of Raleigh.
Around 6:30pm, a boom truck was being used to lift lumber to the top of a home under construction in the 1300 block of Zack’s Mill Road. Salazar was holding a cable attempting to hook it to some lumber when the boom got too close to a power line. Salazar was electrocuted and died at the scene.
The Elevation Fire Department, Johnston County EMS, Johnston County Sheriff’s Office, and Duke Energy responded. Sheriff’s investigators said the death was accidental.
It is ashame to lose a life this young when a basic monthly safety meeting covering safe crane operation would had saved this young life.
His life would have been saved by a Load Insulator which have been reliably used since 1997. It is a shame that most of the Crane Industry simply do not want to spend $5k to protect their workers.
