MICRO – On Monday, September 5th, Labor Day, the Town of Micro held its 1st Annual Town Day at Jerome Park. Organizers said it was a big success. There were a few hundred people that came out for the event.
The afternoon started with a lawnmower and golf cart parade with a dozen entries. There were four food truck vendors, 13 arts and crafts and local church vendors, a bounce house for the kids, corn hole games, military vehicles to view, along with a race car, concrete truck, and firetrucks.
Special guests were Muddy the Mudcat and Mini Muddy. Raffles and prizes were given away. Not a single dime of town or taxpayer money was spent on the event.
The tennis court was dedicated in memory of Harold Pittman of Micro who played countless hours on the court as well as spending his own money and time working on the park. Mr. Pittman passed away 5 years ago.
There was also a dedication to honor Eagle Scout, James Price, for all the hard work and effort he put into the revitalization of Jerome Park.
Even though the evening street dance was rained out, the afternoon events were lots of fun. Micro town commissioners wish to make this an annual event with possibly some additional activities mixed in throughout the year.
Micro is the smallest town in Johnston County but as the town slogan goes, “Micro is a small town with a big heart!”
