A 2 year-old child was found alone outside his/her home Friday morning. Smithfield Police said they received a call around 10:00am from a concerned citizen who reported seeing a small child wandering in a yard with no adults around.
Police responded to the scene and located the mother inside the home. Interim Police Chief Keith Powell said the mother thought the child was still asleep in his/her room and did not realize he/she was outside. The child was not harmed.
The Johnston County Department of Social Services was notified about the incident. Police did not release the location where the incident occurred.
