21-Year-Old Suffers Serious Injuries in Selma Stabbing

SELMA, N.C. — A Saturday night altercation in Selma ended with one woman hospitalized with serious injuries and another facing a felony charge.

Officers responded around 11:45 p.m. July 11 to the 600 block of White Street after receiving a report of a stabbing.

When officers arrived, they found a 21-year-old woman suffering from two stab wounds, according to Selma Police Chief J. Vause.

The victim was treated at the scene by Johnston County EMS before being transported to WakeMed with serious injuries. Police said she was listed in stable condition.

Following an investigation, officers arrested Sonia Leeann Salas, 22, of Selma, charging her with felony assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.

Police said the stabbing occurred during an altercation between Salas and the victim, who were acquaintances.

The investigation remains ongoing.
