The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an overnight break-in while the homeowner was in law enforcement custody for about 3 hours.
Around 11:00pm Monday, a deputy went to a home on Hickory Crossroads Road near Kenly to serve an arrest warrant on a 33 year-old woman who had failed to appear in court recently on three traffic related offenses.
The woman was released from custody around 2:00am Tuesday (today) and upon returning to her home discovered a break-in and $24,675 in items had reportedly been stolen.
The victim said two flat screen TV’s, 3 firearms, a Target gift card and $20,000 in jewelry were stolen.
Sheriff’s Detective Lt. Mike Carson said when the deputy left the home with the individual to take her to jail, an acquaintance of the victim was still at the address and left in the possession of the home.
The case remains under investigation.
