3 Roommates Charged During Traffic Stop

SMITHFIELD – Three roommates are facing criminal charges following a traffic stop in Smithfield, not far from their home.

Around 11:45pm Sunday, a police officer stopped a 2012 Dodge passenger car on South Sixth Street at South Brightleaf Boulevard for suspicion the driver was impaired.

While the officer was speaking with the driver, identified as Irwin Lopez-Montes, 29, of South Sixth Street, Smithfield, a passenger reportedly got out of the Dodge, walked to a nearby house, and began urinating in the yard. A female resident saw the man in the yard and asked him to leave. The man then turned towards the 18 year-old female and exposed himself.

Backup officers arrived and cited Moises Hernandez Garcia, 30, of South Sixth Street, with indecent exposure. He was released at the scene.

Police took Lopez-Montes into custody for driving while impaired, no operator’s license, and having an open container. A wrecker was called to tow the vehicle.

Before officers could clear from the traffic stop, a roommate reportedly walked to the scene and began interfering with officers. Alvaro Rene Lopez-Lopez, 26, of South Sixth Street, was reportedly asked several times to step back and leave but he refused. He was cited for resisting a public officer and being intoxicated and disruptive. Lopez-Lopez was released from jail into the custody of an acquaintance around 5:30am Monday.

Lopez-Montes was also granted a custody release. His vehicle was impounded by police.

    • In joco mugshots, every Hispanic person is identified as “White”! Why? Is it so they won’t be under ICE scrutiny? They commit crimes, they need to go. Period. (Joco please stop identifying them as white, we have enough criminals of our own to be embarrassed by.)

      • I never noticed that. So I would also like to know why that is. Wonder if JOCO report will do a story on that?

      • Simple concept of race and ethnicities. You’re either white or black, but your ethnicity could be Latino, Asian, etc. Basic high school knowledge.

  1. Lopez-Montes, driving while impaired,no operator’s license and open container.
