3 Suspects Arrested For Cockfighting After Deputies Interrupt Event

MIDDLESEX – Three people were arrested after the Nash County Sheriff’s Office responded to a tip of a possible cockfighting event in progress Saturday morning in the 3500 block of Old Nash Road.

Upon arrival, deputies discovered a dirt path that led to a small grassy field behind a residence. There was a gate across the dirt path leading back to a field. Approximately 20 to 30 vehicles were parked along the edges of the field.

Deputies said one suspect, Bobby Eatmon, 40, of Simms, NC was stationed at the gate crossing and was accepting money from vehicle occupants as they entered the gate.

Deputies observed several other individuals running to various locations off the property with chickens in their arms when they saw deputies approaching. Several small cages were seen across the property next to vehicles, some with chickens and roosters still in them.

Officers said they made contact with the property owner, Richard Perry, 63, of Old Nash Road, Middlesex. Based on the investigation, it was allegedly determined the event was related to cockfighting and there was a $40 dollar entry for each vehicle. The actual fight had not taken place when deputies arrived on the scene. .

Another arrestee, Dustin Collie, 38, of Spring Hope, NC was identified as an accomplice.

Monetary funds related to the event were seized and placed into evidence.

Eatmon, Perry and Collie were charged with Cockfighting, a felony offense, and were booked into the Nash County Detention Facility. Each defendant received a $5,000 bond, which they later posted.
