35,000 Gallon Wastewater Spill Reported
SMITHFIELD – Johnston County Public Utilities reported an estimated 35,000 gallon wastewater spill near Smithfield. The spill was discovered today (Tuesday) in the vicinity of 2731 US Highway 70 West.
The wastewater discharged into Reedy Branch in the Neuse River Basin. The discharge was the result of a pipeline material failure.
The NC Division of Water Resources was notified of the event and is reviewing the matter.
