SMITHFIELD – Four teenagers were killed in a single vehicle accident on Interstate 95 at Brogden Road (Exit 93).

At 2:39am Monday, a state trooper who was stationary running radar in the median of I-95 did a radar clock on a vehicle traveling northbound at 104 miles per hour. The trooper attempted to catch up to the speeding Kia passenger car, but had not initiated a traffic stop or pursuit, as the vehicle was no longer in sight.

Prior to the trooper being able to overtake the Kia, the driver attempted to exit at Brogden Road. The Kia ran off the roadway to the left colliding with several trees.

The driver and front seat passenger were trapped in the vehicle, while the two back seat passengers were ejected. All four occupants died at the scene as a result of the collision.

  1. Sad. I look over at those scarred up trees everyday on my way home from work when I take that exit and wonder how many people have hit them.

  2. So sorry for your loss, prayers to all the families during this difficult time. To lose anyone is terrible but to lose a child is the most heartbreaking. God will see you through, hold on to each other.

    • Don’t even go there. Everyone of these kids have good parents and are really good kids. Keep those dumb thoughts to yourself. Right now is not the time. There is 4 families mourning their child

      • If they were such “good” kids with “good” parents, no pone should be afraid to explain why they were out at 2:39am driving 104MPH. What is everyone trying to hide?

        • Yes, it is very sad. But I agree with you why in the world were they out that time of the morning. My condolences to all the families. Children are developing their young minds and experiencing the highs and lows of this crazy insane world they need loving, caring, and tough love parenting.

        • I am so sorry and sad at the loss of these young souls! My heart truly breaks for their families. There is no need or time to place blame because these young men are now gone. My sons knew these individuals too. The focus now needs to shift on how to help these families and be there for them in their time of need! None of us will ever know when we might be in those shoes! My God this could have been one of our loved ones!! I offer my condolences to these young men’s families.

      • I wonder who owned the car involved and/or why he was allowed to take it? I wonder if there had been any other times the young man “took” a car?

  3. I’m so sorry for your loss, prayers to all the families who lost their loved ones. It is so hard to lose anyone but your child is your heart and soul. God will see you through this heartbreaking time. Hold on to each other and remember the happiness your child gave to you.

    • And I can tell you what is normal these days based on what actual teen survivors have told me – a “number” of joints are frequently smoked.

  4. This is really sad These four children were suppose to be our feature but that goes to show in the blink of a eye your life can end

  5. Parents, please, please make your kids read this article at least FIVE times then tell them how much you love them.
For the families of these kids my wife and I are so sorry. Prayers for all the family.

  6. My heart breaks for all of the families. No words can ever express the loss these families feel. Lord please bless them and speak peace to their hearts that can only come from you. Lord in the days to come surround each and every one of them with your mercy and your amazing love. I am so very sorry for the loss of your sweet boys.

  7. I’m so sorry to all family’s and friends of this tragic loss of life. There are no answers as to why so many youth can get through those care free years without injury. We all pushed the limits as young adults at one time or another. 🙏

  8. Let this incident be a lesson for all of us that we are not guaranteed tomorrow. Each day, each breath we take is a gift and should not be wasted on trivial matters or self indulgence. These young people made a terrible choice and choices have consequences. The choices we make each day impact others. I cannot count the number of times drivers running red lights, swerving in and out between cars, trying to cross an intersection at high speed, have almost caused a wreck. While this accident was traffic and devastating, it should serve as a lesson.

  9. ON THE MORNING OF THE ACCIDENT I WAS HEADING TO WORK IN BENSON AROUND 4:15 AM AND AS I GOT CLOSER TO SCENE OF THE RECK I BEGAN TO PRAY NOT NOING THERE WERE 4 YOUNG LIVES TAKEN ALL I CAN SAY IS MAY THE LORD BE WITH THE FOUR FAMILIES

  10. Community and families, let us pray for the kids families and peers. It no time to find fault lives have been changed. Stop pointing at what it appears to your eyes. We all have dealt with situations that are still secretly kept. My point is he who is without sin let them cast the first stone. And that will be none of us. Community a impact has taken a toll on these kids peers, families stop speaking ill and pray for the parents, siblings, Smithfield Selma student body and staff. No time to find fault.

  11. You can tell these comments are ridden with ppl that care about the “ugly” truth of the situation and not the loss. No toxicology report no motive and y’all sitting here assuming things about these teenagers. May the families find peace. Half of yall are too far gone to find it.

  12. Any idiot driving 104 is no actually driving, they are just “aiming” the cat. At least this idiot didn’t run into someone else. Selfish and didn’t care about anyone else.

    • The only person thats selfish is you!!!! THEY LOST THEIR LIVES AND ALL U CAN SAY IS HE WAS AN IDIOT??? YOUR ********! AND NOTHING GOOD IS GOING TO HAPPEN TO UR SLOW SELF IF U DON’T CHANGE U COULD’VE SAID U WERE SORRY FOR OUR LOSS! I LOST 4 BESTFRIENDS! N ALL U CAN SAY IS THEY ARE IDIOTS??? GO TO H*LL!

  13. LLS, you would have a whole different opinion if this jerk had rammed his car into someone in your family or killed someone in your family riding in the car. Clue in. Just because YOU were lucky enough to not have been a victim of this idiot doesn’t mean he wasn’t a selfish jerk who didn’t give a crap.
