The Wake County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) continues to investigate a Sunday night shooting that injured a 5-year-old boy.
Shortly before 9 p.m., deputies responded to the parking lot of a church on Old Milburnie Road after a caller stated that a child had been shot while riding in a car with family members.
According to a witness, the family was travelling on New Bern Avenue, at Old Milburnie Road, when they heard a “pop” sound. It was at that time the juvenile began complaining about arm pain. The family pulled into the parking lot of Grace Baptist Church, where they discovered the child’s injury.
The child was transported to WakeMed Hospital for treatment.
Sheriff’s investigators have been on Old Milburnie Road today speaking with anyone that may have witnessed the events leading up to the shooting.
