The 50-210 Fire Department has received formal approval from Johnston County Commissioners to respond to medical calls in their fire district. Chief Nathan Burgess had previously received approval from the Johnston County EMS Advisory Committee at their June 23, 2020 meeting.
Johnston County Emergency Services Deputy Director Josh Holloman presented a request to Commissioners requesting 50-210 Fire provide first responder service at the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) level. Holloman said he had reviewed the request and confirmed the fire department had met all the county and state requirements.
Commissioners unanimously approved the request.
Fire department first responders are dispatched to the scene of medical calls within their district, oftentimes arriving before an EMS unit. The first responders provide medical aid and stabilize patients prior to the arrival of paramedics.
