Two minivans with a total of 10 people inside the vehicles collided Thursday night in Clayton. The wreck was reported around 8:30pm on Highway 70 West at the intersection of NC 42 East.
Initial reports to the Johnston County 911 Center reported a 10 car wreck. When Clayton Fire and Johnston County EMS arrived they found the wreck involved 2 minivans.
Clayton Police said a Chrysler Town and Country minivan with 4 people inside ran a red light at the intersection and struck a Honda Odyssey minivan with 6 people inside. The driver of the Chrysler and two children had minor injuries. The driver of the Honda was not injured but 4 passenger had minor injuries.
Both drivers told police their light was green. Police pulled video footage from a nearby Sheetz which reportedly showed the Chrysler pulling into the intersection while their lane of travel was stopped and traffic flowing in the opposite direction had the green light.
Both minivans sustained extensive damage and had to be towed from the scene. The driver of the Chrysler was cited for running a red light. The accident cause brief traffic delays at the intersection until the wreckage could be cleared.
