CLAYTON – A 70 year-old man died in a single vehicle accident Saturday just yards from his home.
The victim, James Larry Avery of 435 Big Pine Road, Clayton, was driving his pickup truck in the 400 block of Big Pine Road when he ran off the roadway, struck a ditch, and then collided with tree before overturning. Avery, the only occupant in the truck, was ejected and died at the scene. He was not wearing a seat belt.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by Trooper T.R. Price.
The State Highway Patrol, Cleveland Fire Department, Johnston County EMS and Johnston County Medical Examiner’s Office responded to the scene.
