79-Year-Old Woman Dies In Johnston County Wreck

JOHNSTON COUNTY, N.C. — A 79-year-old Garner woman was killed in a head-on collision Wednesday morning on McLemore Road in the Cleveland community, according to the N.C. State Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred around 11:15 a.m. on McLemore Road near Lassiter Farms Lane.
Troopers said a preliminary investigation determined a 2013 Chevrolet sedan traveling east crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a westbound Chevrolet Malibu.
The driver of the Malibu, Patricia Ann Mailile, 79, of Garner, was pronounced dead at the scene. She was the only occupant of the vehicle and was wearing a seat belt.

The driver of the eastbound Chevrolet, Jennifer Cameron, 49, of Clayton, was transported to WakeMed in Raleigh with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. She also was the sole occupant of her vehicle and was wearing a seat belt.
Following the investigation, the Highway Patrol charged Cameron with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle and driving left of center.
Investigators said speed and alcohol are not believed to have contributed to the collision. Troopers said driver inattention and crossing the centerline are considered contributing factors.
As part of the investigation, Cameron’s blood will be analyzed to determine whether any impairing substances may have played a role in the crash. Investigators also plan to examine cell phone records to determine whether cell phone use contributed to the collision.
McLemore Road remained closed for approximately 2½ hours while troopers investigated the crash. The roadway reopened at 1:26 p.m.
The collision remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Highway Patrol’s Johnston County office at (919) 934-2186 or (919) 733-4400 and ask for Trooper T. Cole or Sgt. N.D. White.
